One of
the aims of this co-ordinating body of civic organisations and
institutions providing educational activities for schools is to play a
part in the joint task of educating young citizens. The variety of
activities offered by the organisations belonging to the Pedagogical
Co-ordination Council can be used by schools to move towards an
all-round education catering for the many different facets, skills and
abilities of human deve-lopment.
The Pedagogical Co-ordination Council seeks to offer schools the
greatest possible number and diversity of educational and cultural
resources in order to optimise the city as an educational agent and
broaden children’s learning opportunities. It also helps to give
suitable publicity to one-off educational events staged by these
organisations or arising out of the social fabric of the city.
A precondition for achieving these goals is the setting up of
information and dissemination channels to meet the needs of schools and
teachers. It also requires the setting up of instruments for getting to
know the network of civic facilities, agencies and institutions with
educational activities or resources.

Another
goal of the Pedagogical Co-ordination Council is to ensure the
continuous improvement and extension of the educational activities
institutions and organi-sations make available to schools by opening up
new spaces and creating new educational resources on the one hand, and
updating and upgrading already existing ones on the other. Ensuring the
qualitative improvement of the educational activities provided by
organisations in regard to content, methodology, accessibility and
compensation for inequalities, is one of the aims of the Pedagogical
Co-ordination Council. One of the ways of achieving such renovation and
improvement is through ongoing training for the professionals who
manage, organise and develop educational activities for schoolchildren.
The Pedagogical Co-ordination Council also seeks to promote and improve
mutual knowledge, dialogue and joint work between civic organisations
and schools in order to move away from a pattern where educational
activities are provided for schools as mere users of such services to
one based on collaboration.
