Barcelona m'enamora
Judith Mascó
Do you live where you want to live?
Yes, without doubt. I have travelled a lot and am very sure that I love Barcelona. I feel very happy here, I have my family, my friends, manage my modelling career here, etc. For me it is the perfect place, where I can find a bit of everything.
Would you like to move? Why and where to?
No. I have been lucky enough to be able to choose where I live.
Do you spend time in your neighbourhood and with your neighbours? Do you have the shops you need nearby (baker's, grocer's, dry cleaner's)?
Yes, I like spending time in my neighbourhood, I think it is the best way to have a good quality of life, because you can be close to others in a big city where nobody knows you.
As well as doing your daily shopping (if you do it) do you have places and services for all your needs?
If I have time, I like to do my own daily shopping. I really can find all I need in my neighbourhood.
Do you stroll around your own neighbourhood for pleasure or do you go elsewhere?
I like to discover new areas which were totally unknown for me until recently. I have had some very pleasant surprises discovering new panoramic views of the city, or maybe public libraries, or enchanting little alleyways. The truth is that I like going to all the areas, it is the only way to begin to know this city. Barcelona is bigger than it seems!
Which are your favourite cinemas, theatres and clubs?
I tend to go for the film or play I want to see rather than where it is on. Despite this, one of the best places to see a play or go to a concert is at the Teatre Grec. I find it magical to be in the open air, in the summer, sitting in an amphitheatre.
And which are your favourite restaurants, bars and cafés?
I like to vary them and discover new ones. For example, areas such as Born or Gràcia are full of small, enchanting places to have dinner, a "pica-pica" or have a few drinks. I also like eating in Barceloneta.
Is there any public area where you like to go, to sit and chat?
I like to go to Barceloneta beach, to chat with my friends, while having a drink or an ice cream in one of the beach xiringuito. I also enjoy walking and chatting in the Sentmenat park, by the Desert de Sarrià.
When you have to act as a guide for visitors, where do you take them?
Firstly, all they ask to see, typical of the city, and once I have done the "tourist route", I show them the city where I live (my neighbourhood, my workplace, where I go shopping, etc.). The truth is, there is a lot to see in Barcelona, it is a very complete city.
What is the most appropriate, funny or surprising adjective you have heard to describe Barcelona? Which one would you use?
At the moment I can't think of one, but what I do find is that when I am travelling and I say I am from Barcelona, there is always a conversation about how marvellous the city is, and those who have never been are dying to visit. I would say that Barcelona is in fashion.
Of where, between the sea and Tibidabo, do you have the most memories?
My neighbourhood of Les Corts and also Sarrià, where I studied and lived for many years.
Which is the best place (a park, a café, a seat in the city) to have a romantic date, or to be able to whisper sweet nothings to a loved one?
The breakwaters (a classic or what?), or the Parc de Collserola.
What colours or smells, when you see or smell them anywhere in the world, remind you immediately of Barcelona?
The damp smell of the sea and the black and yellow of the taxis.
When you have had to leave the city for a while, what have you missed most?
Being able to read the newspaper on a Sunday, next to the sea, while having an aperitif, or a rice dish with a cool wine for example. But, in fact, I miss everything about the city, my people, my neighbourhood and my daily routine.
Which of the changes that have been made in the city recently are you happiest with?
The view of the sea from the city and the by-passes.
What don't you like, and what would you do to change it?
I think the underground network needs extending.
Add anything you would like to say, and that we haven't asked
That I have always felt proud to be from Barcelona. I like living in, and I love, the city.
