Barcelona m'enamora
Miquel Sitjar
Do you live where you want to live?
Barcelona is the city I always like coming back to. When I have to go somewher else for work reasons, after two or three weeks, images of the Ramblas in spring, the Plaça de la Virreina in summer, or the Plaça del Pi in winter, come into my head. It is unconditional love.
Would you like to move? Why and where to?
Because of too much noise, the contamination, and the desire for a decent flat, I am inclined towards moving to the outskirts. Whatever happens, I want a place from where I can reach the centre in 10 minutes.
Do you spend time in your neighbourhood and with your neighbours? Do you have the shops you need nearby (baker's, grocer's, dry cleaner's)?
I live in the Gràcia neighbourhood, and really, there is everything you need, above all, lots of life. And this, without doubt, is what I love most about it. It is an area which encourages participation, creativity, and tolerance. It is a real shame that it is becoming elitist again (because of the price of renting), and that you have to spend three quarters of an hour to find a parking space every time you move the car, in addition to finding it dented or scratched.
As well as doing your daily shopping (if you do it) do you have places and services for all your needs?
In Gràcia the only thing missing is parking space.
Do you stroll around your own neighbourhood for pleasure or do you go elsewhere?
Walking around Gràcia is one of my favourite hobbies, and discovering new places is now a way of life.
Which are your favourite cinemas, theatres and clubs?
It might seem a little strange, but the truth is that I choose the cinema depending on what film I want to see, wherever it is in the city, although just the advantage of the Bosque cinema being so close to home, makes it the favourite. For the theatre, the same: I don't choose the place, but the performance. Although I have always dreamed of seeing something in the Coliseum cinema... What can we do! Night clubs? It depends... If you are in good company, after all, a bench in the middle of the street can become a favourite spot.
And which are your favourite restaurants, bars and cafés?
In the Carrer Torrent de les Flors, there is a fantastic cafeteria, run by a wonderful couple. It is called the Emblemàtic, and they are Dolors and Joan. Restaurants in Gràcia... there are so many! I also tend to choose one depending on the type of food I want.
Is there any public area where you like to go, to sit and chat
10 points for the Plaça de la Virreina.
When you have to act as a guide for visitors, where do you take them?
The Sagrada Família, the Mirador of Tibidabo, Collserola, Barceloneta, the streets in Gràcia...
What is the most appropriate, funny or surprising adjective you have heard to describe Barcelona? Which one would you use?
I have been told that Barcelona is a clean and orderly city: I would say that Barcelona is "colours and smiles".
Of where, between the sea and Tibidabo, do you have the most memories?
The Parc del Putxet.
Which is the best place (a park, a café, a seat in the city) to have a romantic date, or to be able to whisper sweet nothings to a loved one?
The Mirador of Tibidabo.
What colours or smells, when you see or smell them anywhere in the world, remind you immediately of Barcelona?
The colour of the taxis; a square without cars, full of tables where you can have a vermouth...
When you have had to leave the city for a while, what have you missed most?
Walking along the Rambles.
Which of the changes that have been made in the city recently are you happiest with?
That they have changed the paint used to mark the streets. This way motorbike riders skid less.
What don't you like, and what would you do to change it?
I don't like the area of the Forum. I would like it to be changed to a space to build flats, within reach of all.
Add anything you would like to say, and that we haven't asked
I would prefer the city not to be so worried about the image it projects outside, and more concerned about encouraging hospitality.
