Fotoweb bcn 2007 third digital photography competition

  1. Presentation

Barcelona City Council keeps in step with modern ideas, creativity and innovation. In 2005, this spirit led to it holding the first digital photography competition on its municipal website, so that all citizens could have a chance to contribute. After the success and high participation in the first competition, we have decided to hold it again this year, so that all citizens have the chance to consolidate and further open up the website with their photo contributions.

  2. Objectives

To share different visions of the city of Barcelona with photos which may be included on the municipal website, and to promote citizen participation with the use of new technologies.

  3. Categories

The Fotoweb bcn 2007 digital photography competition has two categories, in each of which the photographer should reveal their subjective opinion of Barcelona. This means that all photos entered in the competition must have the city of Barcelona as the theme, either as the main stage or the lead character.

The competition categories are as follows:

    Your life in Barcelona

Use your digital camera to demonstrate your life in Barcelona, expressing the sensations you have in your day-by-day routines in the city; having a coffee at your favourite pavement café, walking through the narrow streets and small squares that take you to your home, waiting for your child outside school, or any other situation when you feel good, such as looking at the clouds in the sky from your window or listening to the rain while you are relaxing on your sofa.

The photo to enter for this category needs to express your life in Barcelona.

    A single moment in Barcelona

Use your mobile phone to capture a single moment which reflects everyday life in the city and is part of that which makes the city what it is. For this category you need to use your mobile phone to capture this single moment which demonstrates the atmosphere and feeling of the city. It is important that the photo reveals an unexpected moment, a fleeting instant which, thanks to the technology available with mobile phones, can be captured by pressing a single key.

  4. Photographs

Participants can enter a maximum of two photographs in each category.

The photos must be originals and property of the author. Entries which have been previously awarded a prize or published will not be accepted.

Each participant must be the author of, and have copyright to, the photograph entered for the competition. Take partnts are responsible for any claims lodged by third parties in this respect.

All photographs must respect rights to privacy and a person's right to not have their photo taken, in compliance with the 1/1982 5 May Act regarding civil protection on integrity, personal and family privacy and a person's rights over their own image. Photographs which do not meet these conditions will not be accepted.

  5. Formats

The photo format must be JPEG/JPG, with minimum dimensions of 1,024 x 768 pixels (vertical and horizontal), and must not, under any circumstances, exceed 600 kB.

The jury reserves the right to interpret and resolve any circumstance unforeseen by the competition rules.

  9. Voting by the public

The photographs selected by the jury will be published on the http://www.bcn.cat/concursfotografic page, so that the general public can vote for the best photograph in each category, so deciding the final winners of the competition.

  10. Prizes

Imagine catching a plane to Berlin in November. Imagine, when you arrive, going to your hotel in the centre of the German capital with your companion, and there finding invitations to visit the different photo exhibitions in the city.

There is no need to close your eyes to see yourself on this wonderful journey to the heart of Europe: you just have to take part in Fotoweb bcn 2007 and win the first prize in one of the two categories.

Even if you win second place in one of the two categories, there are some very attractive prizes waiting for you. The second prize in the digital camera category is a professional digital camera, while that for the mobile phone category is a fourth generation mobile phone.

Authors of the photographs selected by the jury will also receive a diploma.

The Mayor will give the prizes after the voting by the general public, without prejudice to the ruling for delegation and decentralisation laid down in article 23.4 of the LBRL, 54.1 of the LMC and 13.2 of the Barcelona Municipal Charter.

  11. Rights

The rights for public broadcast, circulation, reproduction and transformation of the finalist and winning photographs are freely ceded to Barcelona City Council, which reserves these rights in accordance with one of the objectives of the competition: to include these photographs on the municipal website with a non-profit motive.

It is understood that this cession is of an exclusive nature, in any country in the world and for a period of five years. The author relinquishes all rights to remuneration for use of the photograph.

Whenever one of these photographs is used, the name of the person who sent it will be cited.

Barcelona City Council will safeguard the condition and conservation of the photographs, although it will not be responsible for any deterioration beyond its control.

  12. Acceptance

Participation in the competition implies acceptance of all the competition rules, the verdict of the jury and voting by the public.

  13. Legal dispute proceedings

The administrative dispute system is the legal route for resolving any dispute that may arise once the purely administrative route has been exhausted, expressly with submission to the Barcelona courts and tribunals.
