What is it?

The Centre of Statistical Documentation (CDE) is a specialised library, the basic function of which is to collect statistical data on Barcelona. In other words, its objective is the exhaustive collection of the aforementioned numerical data relating to its administrative and/or statistical divisions, the municipal district as a whole and its natural surroundings, the Metropolitan and Regional Area. It also collects global information within a broader framework (Catalonia, etc.), at the same time storing similar data for other cities.

The CDE is open to the general public: municipal offices, researchers, students, companies, etc. It also has a small reading room for consulting documents.

Resources

The library’s resources are basically made up of:

The Statistical Yearbook for the city of Barcelona. Published for almost one hundred years, it has compiled information continuously from 1902 to the present day, using different treatments depending on the period, but always with the common denominator of multi-disciplinary statistics: territorial, climatic, population, housing, education, etc. on Barcelona.

A series of thematic statistical resources. Historically speaking, the production of statistics has been offered in the form of tables, making use of data collected as part of the municipal administration itself. Highlighted among its rich content is the Municipal Census of Inhabitants, followed by other sections, such as the Vehicle Road Tax statistics, etc, not to mention recent entries such as the Tax on Commercial and Professional Activities (IAE).

    Yearbooks of other cities
Although the treatment of multi-disciplinary indicators contained in yearbooks from other cities still varies greatly on a European level, it is of great interest to be able to consider the data relating to Barcelona in the context of other European experiences. The CDE has, for some years now, adopted a policy of exchanging year books and, by way of example, has a series of current year books from other cities, including:
Oslo (from 1956... ) Berlin (1965...) Vienna (1967...) Copenhagen (1972...) Bologna (1980...) Rome (1986...) Amsterdam (1985...)...., not to mention the Spanish cities of Madrid (1951 to 1980; 1987-1996) and Valencia from 1985.

Yearbooks of Catalonia and Spain, in addition to those relating to other autonomous regions.  Country Yearbooks, published by the National Statistical Institutions, similarly, sector-based yearbooks and yearbooks of country groupings such as the UN, The International Labour Organisation and Eurostat.

    Monographs
Monographic studies produced by different administrations, institutions and companies using different territorial treatments and on social, economic and cultural issues, together with specialised research of a descriptive nature, prepared by the Department of Statistics itself.

Catalogue

The Centre of Statistical Documentation has a computerised catalogue, which forms part of the collective catalogue of the municipal areas coordinated by the General Library.

The catalog of the municipal libraries of Barcelona has become part of the University Union Catalogue of Catalonia (CBUC). This will make our funds have greater visibility. At the same time, we become part of the interlibrary loan service between consortium institutions. This cooperation has positive from many points of view: to search for information / documentation and dissemination of municipal documents, among others.

It also has an online service point in the Centre itself, for user consultation, through which users can consult and research the collective catalogue of the General Library.
