Safe mobility education is one of the most important activities carried out by the Guardia Urbana in the city's schools.
The activity programme, The Guardia Urbana in schools, offers a whole series of educational proposals for work on practical rather than theoretical aspects of mobility and civic-mindedness.
It is designed for use in the different education stages, from pre-school education (3 years old) to further education (up to 18 years old), and marks out specific goals that meet the needs of each stage and are fruit of the analysis of the reality of students' lives.
Its preventive action is orientated towards informing students of personal risk factors and their consequences, helping them to understand the inherent dangers and ultimately getting them to want to avoid these dangers. It brings together information, recognition and the intention to modify conduct. Its purpose, therefore, is to encourage students to:
The general objective is to increase their safety and develop a community, especially as regards the younger members, which is more and more aware, informed, thoughtful, open to dialogue and responsible and, consequently, safer. In conclusion, the students are communicated the importance of valuing, both as regards themselves and others, responsible behaviour, coexistence, solidarity, respect and civic-mindedness.
In order to ensure quality educational activity, teaching materials (teaching guide for staff and learning materials for students) have been prepared for the different stages.
The activities designed for the different educational age groups are intended to be stimulating, participatory and as active as possible. The starting point is the students' own experiences, with the aim of encouraging reflection and dialogue.
Safe mobility education meets the different needs of other social groups, such as in the case of the elderly with sessions on safety being held in day centres.
As regards pre-school and primary education, the programme is applied as interdisciplinary subject matter, divided into levels, and during secondary and further education, it is split into levels and themes. For special educational needs, it is presented in different thematic blocks designed to back up the work of specialised staff.
At the end of the course, exhibitions are held showing work carried out by the students.
