The conference cycle for the general public will aim to recreate the style of the “International conferences on Picasso”, organised by the Caixa de Barcelona and held in Barcelona in 1981, as part of the centenary celebrations for the birth of the artist. That’s why we hope that 10 well-known experts on Picasso’s works, both from Spain and other countries, will take part, such as Lourdes Cirlot, Anna Casanovas, Marilyn McCully, Mercè Vidal, Joan-Francesc Ainaud and Pierre Daix among others, who will provide highly diverse perspectives.

A series of conferences and talks about Picasso being held by Biblioteques de Barcelona during the month of April present a vision of the artist and his contexts: the artistic, the personal and the Picasso-related spaces closest to hand, in particular the city of Barcelona itself, with Picasso as one of its leading symbols.
The secrets of Picasso's creative process will be examined at two conferences, one on the multi-faceted nature of the artist's work beyond painting, and the other focusing on one of Picasso's, and indeed 20th century art's most iconic works: Guernica. The aim of these events is to open the way to more profound knowledge and enjoyment of the work of an artist closely linked to Barcelona, and who will be the particular focus of the city's attention in 2006, the 125th anniversary of his birth. The cycle will include contributions by Josep Bracons, Joan Campàs, Ramon Casalé, Lídia Català, Raquel Medina, Miquel Mirambell and Àlex Mitrani
