In the middle
of the gardens by Forestier there is a bust of Joaquim
Vayreda (1843-1894), many of whose paintings are in
the Museum of Modern Art. The bust was made by Manuel
Fuxà in 1915.
Manuel Fuxà i Leal, a sculptor, he was born in
Barcelona in 1850 where he died in 1927. He was a teacher
at the Llotja School in Barcelona and he became Director
of the school from 1911 until 1920.
Joaquim Vayreda i Vila
A painter, born in Girona in 1843. When he was nine
years old Vayreda studied drawing at school in Olot
and he went on to study at the workshop of Ramón Martí
Alsina in Barcelona. In 1865 he was first exhibited
but it was when he went to Paris in 1871 that he acquired
the knowledge that helped him follow modern European
trends.
