Barcino
A visual poem with the ideogram Barcino by Joan Brossa. Created by the artist in 1992, it was installed in Nova Square in 1994.
Joan Brossa, poet and playwright, was one of the co-founders of the avant-garde magazine Dau al Set. During the dark years of Franco he wrote prolifically, his works having a major impact on the Barcelona avant-garde, in addition to working with painters, sculptors, musicians and filmmakers.
Within his extensive literary production, Joan Brossa authored a large volume of poetry. In 1950 he published Em va fer Joan Brossa; in 1961, Poemes civils; and later acclaimed anthologies, including Antologia de poemes de revolta: 1943-1978 and Antologia poètica: 1941-1978.
Brossa combined his work as a poet with play writing - works such as Nocturns encontres from 1951 - films scripts - No compteu amb els dits, 1967, for example - and abundant graphic work, especially posters that reflect the pursuit of a visual expression of objects, notably Vuit pòsters poema, 1975.
In 1984 he created a walk-through visual poem for the Parc del Velòdrom in Horta.
Joan Brossa was awarded the Lletra d'Or prize in 1981.
